Sonja Pahor pianiste, concertiste

Franco Mezzena violinista, concertista

"Chostakovitch, Rachmaninov, Debussy"
Trois grands trios, trois mondes sonores, trois philosophies musicales.

Alberto Pomeranz, pianista, concertista

DIFFERENT COLORS OF ROMANTICISM FROM THE STRINGS OF THE “NUOVO TRIO PARSIFAL”
BY Francesco Storino

Considering that even the world of so called classical music unfortunately has its own fashion phenomenon, it would be way too simple to talk about a trio composed of all female players in terms of their precise playing, gracefulness, subtlety, glamour or to say that the beautiful players have nothing to envy to their male colleagues.
So, the first great merit of the three excellent members of the Nuovo Trio Parsifal (Barbara Castelli, violin, Laura Pierazzuoli, violoncello and Anna Paola Milea, piano) was to make the audience, present at the concert organized by the A.Gi.Mus of Fregene on the 11th of May 2003, forget exactly this characteristic of their trio. Furthermore, with the originality of the program, the trio made the audience concentrate fully on the contents of their musical proposal.
The program presented on this occasion certainly escapes the “cliché” compared to the usual concerts for this chamber music formation. The evening opened with the Sonata in B flat major by Franz Schubert. In this work from his early period Schubert treats very carefully the stylistic elements and esthetic qualities of classical style, paying particularly a lot of attention to the styles of Haydn and Mozart. At the same time the work is also filled with the characteristic clarity of writing, which is recognized in all of the more important works by this composer.

Here the performers showed the great capacity of playing together, thank to the moderation of the pianistic touch and the admirable intonation of the strings.
The program continues with the Schumann’s Phantasiestucke, a work in which already emerge the worrying signs of the composer’s illness, which will eventually bring him to madness and the death in poverty. These signs are particularly obvious in the obsessive repetition of the rhythmic cells in the fast movements. The structure of the work does not always have the character of chamber music but instead, it often assigns a role of a soloist to an instrument (above all in the Romance), creating in this way a great contrast with the opening work on the program. It is not necessary to say that the level of the performance responded fully to the challenge of the work, thanks to the all-Italian singing of the three performers.
The second part of the concert brought the particularly interesting Trio in a minor, op. 45 by Xaver Scharwenka. The work of this unknown representative of the German romanticism was very original. This in itself is already a courageous element considering the time period and the origins of the author, the land that gave the true giants to the history of music. This originality is supported by a very solid compositional structure and by an outstanding virtuosity in the piano part, even to the point of making the slow movements too long.
It should also be mentioned that the originality and the quality of the program as well as that of the performers were highly appreciated by the audience to whom the trio, in return, presented an encore by Piazzolla.
Finally, we have noticed from the biography of the trio that the three artists will soon be engaged in numerous concerts abroad. This gave us a great pleasure, knowing that these talented artists, worthy of such occasion will present in the world our prestigious music tradition.

“…Each musician is a virtuoso of her own instrument but they blended together so well yet allowed each other the space to shine. The Debussy Trio in sol Maggiore was simply magical and beautifully realised by these fine players. The Piazzolla work Las Cuatro Estaciones Portenas had the quality of a film score about it. It was full of fire and passion and yet haunting and mysterious ay the same time…
The Nuovo Trio Parsifal deserve a wider audience in the UK…”

They play with such great temperament and fantasy that left the few in the house who appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of this classical music gasping for breath and stood rooted in standing ovation for more than three minutes for the group after their heartwarming performance.
